What products are prohibited on eBay?
Here is a list of all prohibited or restricted item categories on eBay:
- Adult items policy: Some adult items are allowed when they follow our guidelines.
- Alcohol policy: Wine can be listed on the eBay US site (ebay.com) by eBay approved sellers only. No other alcohol products are allowed.
- Live animals policy: Pets and most live animals aren't allowed on eBay. The few that can be listed must follow eBay’s policy.
- Selling art policy: Buyers of art often feel a strong connection or appeal to a piece, and the smallest details will matter.
- Artifacts and cave formations policy: As there are laws and regulations around the sale of artifacts, fossils, relics, and cave formations, it’s important that listings follow eBay’s policy.
- Autographed items, Certificates of Authenticity (COAs), and trading cards policy: Authentic autographs and autographed items can be highly sought after items, and in some cases may be extremely rare and valuable.
- Vehicles, parts, and accessories policy:Vehicles, parts and accessories that don't follow government regulations are not allowed.
- Used clothing policy: Used underwear and socks are not allowed. Other used clothing must follow eBay’s policy.
- Credit and debit cards policy: The sale of credit or debit cards is prohibited.
- Electronically delivered items policy: Selling digital products or electronically delivered content may have specific guidelines.
- Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia policy: Selling illegal drugs, prescription medications, or drug paraphernalia is not allowed.
- Electronic equipment policy: Most electronic equipment used to transmit or receive signals or for surveillance is not allowed. Those eBay allow must follow eBay’s policy.
- Embargoed goods and prohibited countries policy:Goods from embargoed countries aren't allowed.
- Encouraging illegal activity policy: Listings that promote or encourage illegal activities are prohibited.
- Firearms and accessories policy: Firearms are not allowed. Listings for allowed firearm parts and accessories must follow strict guidelines.
- Food policy: Certain food products are not allowed on eBay. Listings for food items that are allowed must follow eBay’s policy.
- Gift cards policy: While gift cards may be sold on eBay, certain types of gift cards aren't allowed.
- Government, transit, and shipping-related items policy: Selling government-related items, transit passes, or shipping labels may have specific regulations.
- Government documents, IDs, and licenses policy: Selling government-issued documents, IDs, or licenses is prohibited.
- Hazardous, restricted, or regulated materials policy: Hazardous materials such as carcinogens, combustibles, explosive precursors, ozone-depleting chemicals, poisons, radioactive materials and items that contain or release such substances are generally prohibited on eBay. Pesticides are restricted as outlined in eBay’s Pesticides policy.
- Human remains and body parts policy: Selling human remains, body parts, or items related to human remains is strictly prohibited.
- Lock picking devices policy: The sale of lock picking tools or devices is not allowed.
- Chance listings policy: Mystery items or listings that offer an opportunity to win an item by chance or contest are not allowed on eBay. Listings for grab bags are only allowed if they follow eBay’s policy.
- Personal information policy: Selling private information, social media items, and software or tools that send unsolicited contacts are not allowed on eBay.
- Coupons policy: Sellers can list up to 25 coupons worth $100 in total per 30-day period, though certain restrictions apply.
- Medical devices policy: Medical devices that require a prescription can't be sold on eBay. Listings for other medical devices must follow eBay’s policy.
- Services policy The sale or offer of services that are illegal or sexual, or violate our User Agreement, are not allowed on eBay.
- Police-related items policy: Police and emergency response uniforms, equipment, or accessories can't be sold on eBay.
- Real estate policy: Unlike listings in most other eBay categories, real estate listings are not a binding offer to sell the property shown.
- Product safety policy: Products that pose a health or safety hazard aren't allowed.
- Event ticket policy: Event tickets sales must follow all government laws and our guidelines.
- Slot machines policy: Slot machines can only be listed in areas where it is legal for them to be owned by both the seller and buyer, unless they are non-functional.
- Collectible currency policy: Listings for graded currency must have been graded by one of our approved companies. Listings for raw currency must follow our policy.
- Stocks and securities policy: Most stocks and securities are not allowed. Single-stock gifts or collectible stock certificates may be listed as long as they follow our policy.
- Stolen property policy: Selling stolen or illegally obtained items is strictly prohibited.
- Travel policy: Individual sellers, travel providers and licensed travel agents can list travel services or vacation packages following our guidelines.
- Cosmetics policy: Listings for used cosmetics, sponges, or applicators are not allowed.
