Introduction

Tax settings in StoreAutomator are quite simple and useful while assigning and processing taxes. Taxes vary from country to country so you need to know the tax requirements of your district and program taxes accordingly, for example, you can:

  • Create a tax for your state and assign this only for buyers in your state

  • Create a tax for a country (e.g.: UK has VAT 20%) and assign it to some products and some others get less tax, or completely exempt,

  • Create taxes for Amazon categories and assign tax rates to different categories

  • Create different tax class IDs and assign them to different categories

Tax assignment hierarchy:

Item level > Channel Level > Storewide

Creating Taxes

Taxes need to be created before assigning them to channels or products:

Menu > Settings > Taxes.

The taxes screen will open up. StoreAutomator’s taxes have the following identification fields:

  • Code is the Name of the tax field

  • Code is the Name of the tax field

  • Rate is the rate of tax

  • Tax Class Id, is the channel-specific tax class Id, or Tax Codes

  • The description is used with tax class id, which channel uses it and it is for which category

  • And actions, which have the edit and delete buttons.

On this screen start creating taxes by clicking on “Add tax” towards the upper right-hand corner. In the opening dialog box, fill out all the information necessary. Make a note that you can either fill in “Rate” or “Tax Class Id” fields; choose a relevant field, click on create. Newly created tax should be visible in the list.

It is recommended that you should create taxes with rates on this screen and also create taxes with product category names (e.g.: clothing, shoes, beauty products, etc… ) and with help of the “Mapping” tool, map category-specific taxes to numbered taxes created.

Tax Mapping

Tax mapping is a useful feature to assign created product categories to numbered tax fields. For example, you are selling Clothing on Amazon, Walmart, Amazon Germany, and the UK. To set up Taxes for these channels do the following:

Go to Menu > Settings > Taxes and add the following taxes:

The idea is to:

  • Create a General “Clothing” tax line, which we will assign this line to other tax lines;

  • Other country-specific tax lines with rates, e.g.: “Sales tax Germany” with 19%

  • Other Tax lines with Tax Class ID’s, e.g.: “WALTAX” with tax class ID: 2038939

Now go to Amazon USA > Channel > Mappings click on the “Taxes” tab. Here StoreAutomator has all your tax entries listed.

Now go to Amazon Germany > Channel > Mappings click on the “Taxes” tab. Towards the right-hand side to “Clothing” click and choose “Sales.Tax.Germany” to assign your generic clothing to Sales.Tax.Germany. For this channel (Amazon Germany) all tax is set to 19% will be calculated accordingly.

Now go to Amazon UK > Channel > Mappings click on the “Taxes” tab. Towards the right-hand side to “Clothing” click and choose “VATUK” to assign your generic clothing to VATUK. For this channel (Amazon UK) all tax is set to 20% will be calculated accordingly.
